Waypoint Port Services management visit to PanamaFriday, 22nd September 2017
CIn the first week of September 2017, Mr. Angelo Cachia, Managing Director and Mr. Periklis Christofi, Group Finance Manager, of Waypoint Port Services, visited Panama to enhance the focus the company has on this strategically important country.
The local Waypoint office was one of the first to be setup globally for Waypoint and from its inception, has been financially successful and has seen a growth in vessels handled year on year. The activities in Panama include canal transits, port operations, bunkering attendance and husbanding services. For the latter activity, we handle no less than four major global Ship Management companies.
The visitors, together with local managers Mr. Franklin Pena and Mr. Francisco Torné, were the guests of the Panama Canal Authority (PCA) and visited the new Panama Canal locks, the control tower at the Cocoli locks and also the PCA operations centre, where they witnessed the sheer extent of the great work the PCA team undertake at this incredible nerve centre.
Given that Waypoint handle no less than 25% of the total LNG carrying vessels that transit the canal, it was very assuring to know that we are accurate, efficient and effective in our transits.
Waypoint Port Services in Panama handle on average 2-3 vessels per day and are operative 24hrs SSHINC, especially bearing in mind the 13 hour difference between Panama and Asia – literally when Panama offices open, Singapore offices have already been closed for the day! Thus there is always someone available at our office in the city centre.
Thanks to the dedicated team in Panama, we are sure of our growth and continuous expansion in this country particularly in the shipchandling and last mile delivery of ships spares activities, and can count on a quality service each time we are called upon by our esteemed expanding list of clients.
